Several schools have asked about adding equipment to the LS2 library management system to help with circulation of computers and A/V equipment. Since MARC records are "designed" for traditional library materials, here is a recommended MARC guide for equipment to utilize LS2 as an "Equipment Management System."
NOTE: Make sure to select the "xxxEQU" holdings code for equipment. This will keep the equipment items hidden (or not searchable) in the PAC.
Moving forward, here are some recommended MARC guidelines to include equipment in LS2:
Step 1: Click on the “Staff Services” tab in LS2 Staff.
Then search for an existing MARC record, by Publisher, for Make and/or Model #.
Step 2: Click on a record to view Make and Model #, as these information are not available in the “Titles Found” list. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 until an appropriate MARC is found or all records have been examined.
Step 3: If an appropriate MARC exists, additional equipment item(s) may be added to this record.
NOTE: Less than 75 items or holdings fields may be safely added to a single MARC record.
If an appropriate MARC is not found OR the existing MARC has too many “attached” items (as shown by the amount of 949 fields), “Add a New Title”
and select “Mixed Materials” for Format and EQU as the collection. Please also enter the Item ID # and include the following information in the appropriate fields:
Title 245: equipment type (example: Laptop, Tablet, Speakers, DVD player, etc.)
Publisher 260: make and model # (example: Apple iPad Mini 4 A1538)
Publisher Year 260: manufacture year, if desired or known
General note 500: general tech specs, may be added at a later time
